The Indian branch of Samsung Electronics is preparing to introduce another Android smartphone from the Galaxy On series, with its next product announcement being set to take place next week, the Indo-Asian News Service reports, citing sources familiar with the matter. The handset in question is said to be designed to compete in the mid-range price bracket, by far the most competitive mobile market in the South Asian country. While its official moniker remains unclear, insiders claim the device will feature 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage space, most likely expandable via a microSD card by up to 256GB.
A Super AMOLED module is also said to be part of the package as Samsung reportedly opted to equip its next Galaxy On phone with yet another Infinity Display panel, which is how the company refers to all of its mobile screens with an elongated aspect ratio of 18.5:9. As the product in question is understood to be a mid-range affair, it will likely feature an FHD+ screen, i.e. one with a resolution of 2,220 by 1,080 pixels. As is the case with virtually every handset Samsung brought to India in recent years, the upcoming Galaxy On offering will be powered by one of the company’s own Exynos processors, sources claim.
The last Galaxy On product launched by the local branch of the South Korean tech giant was the Galaxy On7 Prime which debuted in January. Samsung has been dominating the Indian smartphone market for years but is now being aggressively challenged by Xiaomi, particularly in the entry-level and mid-range price segments. While some industry trackers estimate the Chinese startup already surpassed Samsung in terms of local shipments and sales, the Seoul-based firm remains adamant it’s still the top handset vendor in the country. The new Galaxy On device still doesn’t have a concrete release date attached to it but is said to be launching in the first week of July, i.e. no later than the 8th of the next month.
