Samsung Confirms Early August Launch Date For Galaxy Note 9

Samsung Electronics revealed the Galaxy Note 9 will be announced on August 9, confirming claims made by numerous industry insiders in recent weeks. As expected, the company’s next “Unpacked” event is taking place in New York City, though Samsung won’t be hosting it in Lincoln Center, its traditional venue for premium product launches. Instead, the tech giant resolved to announce the Galaxy Note 9 at the much bigger Barclays Center in Brooklyn, with the event being scheduled to start at 10 AM local time (ET).

The short teaser accompanying the invitation sent to media outlets that can be seen below hints at a saturated gold variant of the Galaxy Note 9 being in the works as it clearly shows a large portion of the new S Pen in that color, as well as other parts of the device. According to previous rumors, the Galaxy Note 9 will be available in at least three or four colors at launch, one of which will be called “Teddy Brown.” The S Pen itself is also said to be significantly improved compared to the stylus that shipped with the Galaxy Note 8, with those claims recently being made by several insiders. While the base model of the Android flagship is likely to feature the same 6GB/64GB memory configuration used by its predecessor, the most high-end variant may ship with as much as 512GB of flash storage and 8GB of RAM, even though that particular version isn’t expected to ever be officially sold stateside.

A likely international model of the Galaxy Note 9 was recently certified by the Federal Communications Commission, though Samsung has yet to have the U.S. variant of the device approved by the telecom regulator. The handset is likely to become available for pre-orders immediately following its announcement and start retailing by the end of August. All four national network operators in the country are likely to carry the Galaxy Note 9, though Samsung should also be selling the Android smartphone unlocked. The product itself is expected to be visually similar to its predecessor but will be powered by a better chip, most likely Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 and Samsung’s own Exynos 9810, depending on the market, as was the case with the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus. The Thursday announcement of the Galaxy Note 9 will be live-streamed by Samsung on its official website and YouTube, the company confirmed earlier today.
