Nokia 2.1 Android Go Smartphone Gets Certified By The FCC

HMD Global had introduced the Nokia 2.1 last month in Russia, and it seems like the device may arrive to the US at some point. The Nokia 2.1 aka Nokia TA-1084 just got certified by the FCC, and even though that doesn’t necessarily mean that it will become available in the US, in most cases it does. For those of you who are unaware, the Nokia 2.1 is HMD Global’s Android Go smartphone, which essentially means that it runs stock Android, but Android Go version of it, a lighter version of Android which comes with some Android Go-specific apps, such as Gmail Go, YouTube Go, Files Go, and so on.

FCC actually shared some images of the phone as well, which, in addition to the model number itself, confirms that this is the Nokia 2.1. Needless to say, the Nokia 2.1 is a budget smartphone, and one of the most affordable smartphones in Nokia’s lineup, quite probably the most affordable one, actually. This device is not yet available for purchase, though, it will go on sale next month, and HMD Global did say that it will cost around $115, depending on the market. Having said that, the Nokia 2.1 does not really have the thinnest bezels out there, but that is to be expected for a budget phone. Nokia’s branding is included on both the phone’s back, and above its display, while all the physical keys sit on the right. A single camera sits on the back of the phone, while the device comes with a metallic frame.

The Nokia 2.1 features a 5.5-inch HD (1280 x 720) display, along with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of expandable storage. The device is fueled by the Snapdragon 425 64-bit quad-core processor, and it comes with Android 8.1 Oreo (Go edition). The phone features two SIM card slots, and an 8-megapixel camera on the back. A 5-megapixel camera is included on the phone’s front side, while a 4,000mAh battery sits on the inside of the device. This smartphone actually comes with a set of stereo speakers, which is quite surprising considering its price point. The device measures 153.6 x 77.6 x 9.7mm, and weighs 174 grams.
