Earlier today, Motorola announced a press event for August 2 where it will unveil something new.
Word on the street is that Motorola could be cooking up not just one, and maybe not even two, but three new smartphones for the event. Rumors have been growing that the Moto Z3 could get announced before the end of the year, but the safe bet at this point is that we’ll actually see the oft-leaked Motorola One Power see the light of day in early August.
Now it turns out that there might actually be two One-branded smartphones coming down the pipe. Android Headlines aims to shed some light on what’s called the Motorola One, another handset not to be confused with the aforementioned Motorola One Power. The report states that “Motorola One” is probably going to be Motorola’s branding from this point forward.
What’s more, Motorola will apparently be going “all-in” with Google’s Android One platform and that the Motorola One lineup, in all its variants, will be Android One handsets.
As far as the differences between the Motorola One and Motorola One Power, sources say the Motorola One will be a slightly smaller smartphone when compared to the One power, and that there will be a few key differences. First and foremost, the back of the phones will hold dual camera setups, but the design will be slightly different. While the Motorola One Power’s dual cameras will be secured in the same enclosure, the Motorola One’s pair of rear cameras will be separate. That may indicate a difference in specs or just a design choice.
Otherwise, the devices will be the same design-wise. You can see the differences in both in the image above, with the Motorola One pictured on the left and the Motorola One Power on the right. You’ll get a notch at the top of the screen and there will be a chin with room enough for a full “Motorola” logo at the bottom. There doesn’t appear to be a 3.5mm headphone jack on board either model, but the top of the phone isn’t visible, so it could be up there.
The new report doesn’t have any new information regarding the specs of the Motorola One, but it’s likely it will have slightly less powerful options than the One Power. As far as those specs are concerned, the Motorola One Power is reportedly set to feature a 6.2-inch display, Snapdragon 636 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of biult-in storage. Also rumored to be included are 12MP and 5MP rear cameras and a 3780mAh battery. It should be running Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box when it arrives.
So, it looks like Motorola is bringing back the full “Motorola” branding. It will be interesting to see if the “Moto” brand is fading out entirely this year or if the Moto Z3 will indeed make an appearance.
