Killi Pays Users For Taking Control Of Their Personal Data

Freckle IoT has now revealed a brand new Android application which allows users to both take greater control over their personal data and also be financially compensated for data they let out. The app, called Killi, is built on the blockchain for added security and effectively lets consumers choose which companies have access to their personal data. For those that do allow their data to be purchased, all transactions are stored in the blockchain. Freckle IoT says that will allow users to follow where that data goes via an audit trail. In short, users will be able to see what companies, corporations, or brands are buying the information. Given the drive to protect customer and user data, including efforts culminating in the E.U.’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), this is one app that couldn’t come at a better time. The new application is completely compliant with those laws as well.

Of course, this is not the first time that a proposal has been made to allow users to have granular control over their own personal information and its spread online. It’s not the first time the suggestion has been made that users should be paid for that data either. On the advertiser side of the equation, Killi provides those who want to buy user data with a means to do that without infringing on consumer privacy. The data is moved from the consumer to the advertiser via integrations Freckle IoT has with global demand-side platforms, ad servers, and data management platforms. What’s more, partners of the platform will also be able to pay Killi users for brand surveys posted through the app. Those will be targeted to those who have opted-in for surveys based on validated data points such as country, region, gender, age, and location. However, targeting can also be based on handset model, operating system, and mobile carrier, while even more options will be added in the future for more precise targeting.

For surveys, Android users will be paid immediately after completing one and the surveys can be up to four questions in length. Payments to Killi users for either data or surveys are made through PayPal or Amazon but there are further redemption options being worked on, including the ability to pay compensation out directly to charities. All users will, however, need to be verified via social validation and a driver’s license barcode scan where applicable, although those are not the only ways identity can be verified.
