Xiaomi took to its official Twitter account to announce that it would finally be bringing its devices to France and Italy. The company didn’t provide many details about the launch itself, which was confirmed shortly after it filed for an IPO in Hong Kong. Instead, it opted to share the information alongside a slogan saying: “New Player, New Attitude.” The dates of the official launch are know as well; May 22 for France and May 24 for Italy. Of course, that means there’s currently no way to know for sure which of its Mi-branded devices can be expected in the two European countries later this spring. Likewise, it’s still unclear whether Xiaomi managed to strike any carrier partnerships, though its new EU push will most likely see it launch online storefronts in France and Italy.
Although Mi handsets can already be unofficially bought online in the Italian market, the handset maker doesn’t have any such presence in the former country. What’s more, previous launches in Europe have utilized carriers associated with the mobile provider Three, which has no operations in France either. So it isn’t clear how that launch is going to work and, pending further announcements from Xiaomi, is probably better not to speculate. More details will undoubtedly follow from Xiaomi in the coming days.
In the meantime, Xiaomi has announced a number of devices over the past couple of months and, given its popularity, any of those could be a fit for its next European markets. For users more accustomed to high-powered devices that perform, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S may be on the cards. At the other end of the spectrum, the OEM also makes several Android One devices for users looking for something budget-friendly but capable. With the Mi 6X being introduced in China several days back, its Android One counterpart for the international market shouldn’t be too far away either, advertised as the Mi A2.
