Nubia is gearing up for the announcement of a new bezel-less smartphone which appears to be set on pushing the limits of the full-screen design paradigm further than the Nubia Z17S did when it was originally introduced last October. This is according to a new teaser image shared recently by Nubia’s co-founder Ni Fei via Weibo, informing followers of a new smartphone launch event titled Full Screen 3.0. The teaser image hints at a truly bezel-less design but the event doesn’t seem to have an exact date yet and detailed specifications are missing at the time of this writing.
Nevertheless, Nubia’s Ni Fei mentions in the original Weibo post that a real full-screen smartphone should have a 100 percent screen-to-body ratio, and although the Nubia Z17S showcased at MWC 2018 had an impressive 90.36-percent ratio which surpassed many competitors, this apparently won’t be enough for the upcoming model set to be unveiled during the so-called Full Screen 3.0 event. The smartphone’s dimensions and design characteristics have so far remained unknown but presumably and judging by the teaser image, Nubia’s idealistic vision of a device with a 100-percent screen-to-body ratio seems to translate into a design that embodies equally thin bezels all around with no notches, ‘chins,’ or thicker bezels at the top or bottom. In this scenario, the placement of the front-facing camera and speaker would be in question, and the fingerprint sensor could reside either on the back panel or more ambitiously behind the full-screen display.
Hardware specifications remain unknown but seeing how the upcoming model is somewhat viewed as an evolution of the Nubia Z17S, it’s likely that the mysterious full-screen unit will adopt equally-powerful or better components in most areas. As a point of reference, the Nubia Z17S relies on the popular Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset coupled with 6GB or 8GB of RAM, it has a 5.73-inch display with a resolution of 2040 x 1080, and carries two 5-megapixel front-facing cameras along with a rear-facing dual camera setup comprised of a 23 and 12-megapixel shooter. The OEM seems to be eager to begin sending out press invites for the yet-undated Full Screen 3.0 event so more details regarding specs, pricing, and availability will likely emerge soon.
