HMD Global will soon be launching an upgraded variant of its mid-range Nokia 6.1 smartphone in the Indian market. The variant will include 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory, against 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory available in the current variant. The company has partnered with Amazon India to exclusively retail the smartphone via its online platform and a page dedicated to the phone is already live on Amazon.in. The listing mentions that the handset will be available for purchase starting May 13 along with a bunch of launch offers from local partners. The 4GB RAM variant of the Nokia 6.1 will be launched in a new Blue Gold color option, while the 3GB RAM variant will continue to be available in Black color only.
Nokia India’s website also has the phone listed from where it can be pre-ordered right away. Even though Amazon India hasn’t revealed the pricing details of the phone in its listing, Nokia’s website states it to be Rs. 18,999 ($282) with the shipments starting May 14. In comparison, the 3GB RAM variant of the Nokia 6.1 was launched in the country at Rs. 16,999 ($252). Launch offers for the Android One-powered smartphone include Rs. 2,000 as cashback for Airtel 4G users, complimentary access to Airtel TV until the end of 2018, 12-month insurance coverage for accidental damage, a 25-percent discount on bookings made on MakeMyTrip, and no-cost EMI for up to 12 months. Most of the other specifications of the new variant will remain to be the same as the currently available Nokia 6.1 variant in the country.
After its international debut, the Nokia 6 (2018) was launched in the South Asian country last month alongside the mid-range Nokia 7 Plus and high-end Nokia 8 Sirocco. It features a 5.5-inch IPS LCD display in the conventional 16:9 aspect ratio with a full HD resolution. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor powers the device along with an Adreno 508 GPU while a battery of 3,000mAh capacity is also included in the package. Launched as part of Google’s Android One program, the Nokia 6.1 comes preloaded with the latest Android 8.1 Oreo with HMD’s commitment to roll out newer firmware and security updates soon after their release. A rear-placed 16-megapixel camera with Zeiss optics and a front-facing 8-megapixel camera come included with the device along with Nokia’s proprietary OZO Audio technology.
