Samsung recently pushed an unannounced smartphone through the Chinese telecommunication agency TENAA and judging by the characteristics detailed in the documents, the handset appears to take the form of a Lite or budget-friendly version of the Samsung Galaxy S8. The unit is identified by the model number SM-G8750, it bears a strong resemblance with the aforementioned flagship right down to the exact dimensions, but it has a lower-resolution display compared to the Galaxy S8, along with what seems to be a different camera configuration.
Specifically, while the full-fledged Samsung Galaxy S8 is equipped with a 5.8-inch display featuring a resolution of 2960 x 1440, the SM-G8750 carries the same display diagonal and 18:5:9 image format but has a lower pixel count of 2220 x 1080. TENAA’s listing also reveals an eight-core processor with a frequency of up to 1.9GHz or 2.2GHz, but it’s unclear whether this is a Qualcomm-made solution or an Exynos SoC developed by Samsung’s chipset division. Either way, the CPU is paired with 4GB of RAM and the phone seems to have 64GB of on-board storage which is expandable by up to 256GB via microSD. As far as the camera configuration goes, the SM-G8750 carries an 8-megapixel unit on the front panel while the back panel should accommodate an 8 or 16-megapixel sensor. The camera layout appears to be identical to the standard Samsung Galaxy S8, and so is the placement of the rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. Additionally, the smartphone has the same button configuration as the Galaxy S8, including what appears to be a Bixby button.
Other similarities between the SM-G8750 and the Samsung Galaxy S8 include a 3,000mAh battery and the overall dimensions clocking in at 148 x 68 x 8-millimeters. Finally, the smartphone runs Android 8.0 Oreo presumably under the OEM’s proprietary Samsung Experience 9.0 skin, but as yet it’s unclear whether the SM-G8750 will offer similar dust and water resistance capabilities as the flagship it appears to imitate. In closing, it should be stressed that aside from the obvious similarities in both design and specs, as of this writing there’s no official confirmation that this device will hit the shelves as a Samsung Galaxy S8 spinoff, or whether it will see a limited or global release, but more details are bound to emerge if the OEM is serious about offering it to prospective buyers eventually.
