Smartphones are great tools, but they can also be huge distractions. So for students studying for a test as important as the suneung, or the national college entrance exam, in South Korea, having a phone that does the bare minimum might be a nice proposition.
Samsung has made the Galaxy J2 pro officially official, a smartphone that can’t connect to the internet. There is an LTE modem equipped in the handset, but it can only be used to send text messages and make phone calls. Otherwise, the internet is unavailable on this smartphone. There is no Wi-Fi available on the J2 Pro, either.
There is also an 8-megapixel camera on the back and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, an offline DioDic4 English dictionary, a calendar app, an FM radio, and a calculator.
The Galaxy J2 Pro features a 5-inch qHD AMOLED display, a quad-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz, 1.5GB of RAM, a microSD card slot, and a battery that measures in at 2600mAh. It will retail in South Korea — and South Korea only — for 200,000 won (about $190).
What’s more, Samsung is also going to run a promotion that will see students able to trade in that Galaxy J2 Pro towards a brand new Galaxy S, Note, or A-series smartphone with the price of the J2 Pro credited towards that new smartphone. To be eligible, students will have needed to finish the 2019 or 2020 suneung.
