Google confirmed recently that the Nexus Player isn’t getting Android P, but it looks like the company may have an alternative streaming device on the way.
A brand new Google-branded Android TV streaming device has landed at the FCC, signaling that Google plans on launching the product at some point in the near future. Thanks to the FCC we have a clear enough image of the new device as well as digital images of the user manual and even a look at the streaming device’s included remote, which will include a dedicated button for Google Assistant.
Meanwhile, the FCC also revealed the important specs for the streaming device. They include 2GB of RAM, 8GB of built-in storage, an Amlogic S905X chipset, support for 4K video and HDMI 2.0A video output. The model number is SN586AD.
Interestingly enough, Google actually isn’t specifically named in the FCC filing. It was listed by Shenzhen SEI Robotics Co., Ltd, and it’s only described as a “4K ATV Stick”. Still, we can very clearly see the “G” logo branding on the streaming device itself, as well as the accompanying remote accessory.
No word on when this new streaming device will be announced, or how much it will cost.
