Xiaomi has started sending out updates to its Mi AI smart speaker that are designed to improve the audio for users. This is coming as an over-the-air update so anyone with the speaker hooked up should be expecting it sometime in the near future if it hasn’t already arrived. The update is in partnership with Dirac Research, and will introduce a host of various audio-related improvements to the Mi AI smart speaker that will end up providing the listener with a better experience overall.
For starters, Dirac and Xiaomi mention that the update should allow for better vocal separation and make vocals clearer and easier to hear when there are other sounds playing through the speaker at the same time, like with songs for example, when you would have both the vocals and the instrumentals. In addition to this the update also brings an improvement to the audio volume. More specifically the audio will be louder at any level than it was prior to this software update. Better acoustic details and a wider sound stage are also highlighted as improvements to listen for.
This isn’t the first time that Xiaomi has worked with Dirac as both companies have partnered up for audio projects for some of Xiaomi’s mobile devices in the past, but with this most recent partnership the two companies want to raise the bar for audio quality on smart speakers, using this as a platform for “setting a standard” for smart speaker audio quality which other companies will be able to use as a measurement when developing their own products. Xiaomi’s Mi AI speaker was launched at the end of last Summer and has received other updates which have improved the usability of the device prior to now. For instance, last Fall Xiaomi sent out an update which introduced the capability to use the speaker for Wi-Fi calling purposes using the internet-based calling service Agora. With this new audio improvement update, those who own the Mi AI smart speaker should be able to use the device more for things like listening to music, which usually benefits from having better quality audio.
