Xiaomi Mi A1 owners had their fair share of issues with the Android 8.0 Oreo update, and it’s not over yet. First, an insufficient beta allowed the upgrade to roll out with a number of bugs, which subsequently prompted Xiaomi to suspend it twice. When the update finally rolled out to most owners, it still carried two significant problems: a fingerprint sensor lag and a severe battery drainage. Xiaomi has now confirmed the issues and says that it’s working on a fix to patch things up. No timeframe is currently available for when the company will resolve the problem, but it should not take too long.
Of the two, the battery drain is the most serious one. Users have been complaining about a serious battery drain for several weeks now, taking to Xiaomi’s official support forums, as well as other sites such as XDA and Reddit. Based on user reports, the issue is to the point that charging the Xiaomi Mi A1 twice per day is required even if the device hasn’t been used very often throughout the day, though this only seems to be the case for some users and not all. The battery drain was one of the reasons why Xiaomi pulled the previous Oreo updates, but it seems the company has still not managed to fix it. The fingerprint scanning issue, meanwhile, refers to a slight delay when trying to unlock the device. After the Android 8.0 Oreo update, it apparently takes the Xiaomi Mi A1 roughly one second longer to unlock. This one-second delay seems minor compared to the excessive battery drain, but users have also reported a number of other issues following the transition to Oreo.
In addition to battery drain and fingerprint sensor lag, Xiaomi Mi A1 owners have also complained about call connection issues, random reboots, trouble saving numbers to the address book, and more. When it comes to the battery drain, Xiaomi said that the issue has already been reported and its developers are currently working to fix it. In terms of the fingerprint scanner lag, the company said that it will forward the reports to the team in charge of this and the issue should be rectified soon. Xiaomi is expected to release a new update in the near future, fixing at least the most urgent issues marring the Android 8.0 Oreo experience on the Mi A1.
