A render depicting what’s said to be the Meizu 15 Plus leaked online earlier this week, originating from Chinese social media network Weibo. The image that can be seen above is of dubious accuracy, showing a handset with a physical home button that the phone maker just removed with the recently released Meizu M6S which featured a digital “Halo” key. Since Meizu is unlikely to revert to a simpler, less versatile button with its next flagship, the newly uncovered render likely wasn’t leaked from the company, though the remaining design cues of the device it shows mostly fall in line with previous rumors about the Meizu 15 Plus.
The handset is depicted as boasting an elongated display panel with an aspect ratio of 18:9, i.e. 2:1. The screen is surrounded by minimal bezels from all sides, though their exact size is hard to measure given how the entire front panel of the supposed Meizu 15 Plus is black. The rear plate of the smartphone accommodates a dual camera setup consisting of two vertically arranged sensors centered near its top. Beneath the imaging system is a circular module that appears to be an LED flash whose size suggests above-average illumination capabilities. A physical power button and volume keys are also part of the package, as is a single-lens front camera setup. The case of the phone appears to be made of metal, suggesting wireless charging won’t be supported by the Meizu 15 Plus. While the Chinese original equipment manufacturer already commercialized the metal unibody design of the newly leaked flagship on numerous occasions, none of its previously launched Android phones sported such minimal bezels.
The base model of the Meizu 15 Plus will ship with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage space, whereas the more premium variant will boast twice the storage space and 8GB of RAM, industry sources said earlier this month. The lineup will reportedly start at 2,999 yuan ($474) and go up to $3,499 ($553). Meizu is expected to equip its next high-end smartphone with an OLED display panel and pre-install Android 8.0 Oreo on it, presumably enhanced with its own Flyme OS. No firm availability dates have yet been rumored but a spring release is likely.
