The marketing machine for Samsung‘s newest flagship smartphone is well underway, pointing to a big reveal on February 25.
As is par for the course, that means the rumor mill is already hard at work trying to show off as many details as it can about the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ before Samsung can officially announce anything. VentureBeat has a clear look at the front of both devices, showcasing an iterative update to the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+.
The newest Galaxy S flagship handsets will look very much like last year’s models, with minimized bezels to show off more of the displays. According to the report, the Galaxy S9 will have a 5.8-inch display and the Galaxy S9+ will boast a 6.2-inch panel. Both phones will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor under the hood in the US and China, while most of the rest of the world will get a Samsung Exynos 9810. The Galaxy S9 will allegedly boast 4GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in storage, while the Galaxy S9+ will have 6GB of RAM and 128GB of built-in storage.
The report also indicates that the camera improvements that Samsung will be talking about in late February include a variable aperture on the primary 12-megapixel camera in both units, which can change between f/2.4 and f/1.5. The Galaxy S9+ is said to have a dual 12-megapixel rear camera setup, while the Galaxy S9 will have a single 12-megapixel rear camera.
Samsung will reportedly be moving the fingerprint reader on the back of both upcoming handsets. So instead of being to the right of the rear camera like it was on the Galaxy S8/S8+, the fingerprint reader will be aligned vertically with it, which should be easier to reach.
