Samsung is challenging Google and Microsoft in the conference room with a digital flip chart, its answer to a giant digital interactive display designed for the workspace to help employees collaborate with each other on projects or other work-related tasks. Officially called the Samsung Flip, this digital flip chart is just one of a few new display-based products that Samsung is showing off at CES this year, alongside The Wall, its new modular 146-inch MicroLED TV. The Samsung Flip is more than just a digital white board of sorts and has lots to offer any business looking to make collaboration an easier activity.
Samsung is boasting collaboration with the Flip through a shared connection feature which lets multiple devices essentially link up to the Flip and see all of the shared ideas across multiple screens in real-time, making it possible for everyone to be included in the process even if they’re not in the room, or if they’re simply at the other end of the room and can more easily view all of the changes happening on screen from their own mobile device. More than just view, though, people can also contribute by making changes on their shared device screen and those changes will show up on the Flip. Simultaneous collaboration is also possible in case more than one person is trying to share their own ideas at the same time, though there is a limit of up to four people for simultaneous annotation.
The Flip’s large 55-inch display features UHD resolution so everything can be seen crystal clear, and the shared screen feature is possible not just with smartphones but also compatible tablets and PCs so just about anyone is able to participate. The Flip supports up to 20 pages of space for writing and drawing on the display, and to help prevent things from getting lost each page contains an embedded search function. Even getting rid of mistakes or notes that are no longer needed is easy to do with Samsung’s implementation of gesture functionality – a quick hand swipe to erase things. The Flip runs on Tizen 3.0 and has 8GB of internal storage space, has a pen holder, can tilt at a 4.5-degree angle in portrait mode, and has a 4-wheel roller base to make moving it around a breeze. Samsung says it plans to make the Flip available to business consumers in both the U.S. and Europe soon with global availability coming later this month, though it hasn’t yet mentioned a price point.
