A new piece of information about Samsung’s hotly-anticipated Galaxy S9 series of devices appears to have leaked online. Admittedly, the Twitter post in question, which was posted to the social network by a user under the handle of @Ricciolo1, doesn’t actually contain much detail at all. With that said, according to the post, Samsung has a distinct new goal in mind for its much-rumored upcoming flagship. While past iterations of the company’s devices have focused on cameras and multitasking, the source claims these new devices will center around mobile gaming.
Despite the lack of details, it isn’t too hard to imagine where Samsung might go with a device intended to bring serious gaming to mobile. Any such device wouldn’t likely stray too far from what Razer recently tried to accomplish with its first-ever foray into the Android device market. It is likely that Samsung would try to ramp up the specs and would likely include entirely new takes on what mobile gaming can be. Based on previous efforts of the company with its DeX docking station, the company could even include accessories to take gaming beyond the mobile screen. Bearing that in mind, it’s important, as always, to note that this information hasn’t necessarily been backed up by anything other than what may or may not be an image of an official tagline associated with the shift in focus. That rather generic message reads “Extreme Gaming on the go” in what appears to be one of Samsung’s signature typefaces.
Unfortunately, there’s no way to verify that has anything to do with Samsung at all. Meanwhile, it should also be said that other rumors have speculated a February 26 launch date for the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus, while this new tweet also includes a link to a previous Twitter post which challenges that. The Twitter user in question instead states that the devices will be unveiled a day earlier than Samsung’s scheduled MWC 2018 press conference. It wouldn’t be unheard of for Samsung to use its main press conference at the event for something else while holding its own separate event for the new flagship. However, at this point, it doesn’t seem too likely so it may be best to take the new rumor with a grain of salt.
