A new render seemingly depicting the unannounced Nokia 9 wrapped in a silicon protective case popped up online recently, showcasing several already-familiar design characteristics that have been previously spotted in similar leaks late last year, along with a couple of never-before-seen cues such as a dual LED flash. Unsurprisingly there’s a dual main camera combo along with a fingerprint sensor mounted on the back panel, and relatively thin side bezels that seem to curve around the edges. The smartphone is shown in a copper finish which may very well be one of the color choices considering that HMD Global had previously employed this flavor for some of its Android-powered smartphone models launched in 2017, including the Nokia 6 and 8. But unlike in previous leaks, this time around the Nokia 9 appears to have rounded display corners akin to Google’s Pixel 2 XL.
Earlier in November last year, several Nokia 9 renders emerged on Amazon UK through a case manufacturer that seemed to offer protective solutions for this unannounced device early on. Unlike the device depicted in these previous images, the Nokia 9, as envision in this latest render at hand, seems to make use of two LED flash modules while also employing rounded display corners. Additionally, it also appears that the sensor array located on the top bezel is repositioned in this new render, with the front-facing camera being placed on the opposite end of the loudspeaker (unseen in this render), closer to the left edge of the phone. Overall, the newly leaked render doesn’t seem too outlandish as it meets previous expectations on the most part, but as usual in such cases, there’s no guarantee that this design is based on real data.
The Nokia 9 is expected to become the OEM‘s second flagship to adopt Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 chipset, and according to previous benchmarks, the CPU should be paired with 6GB of RAM. An earlier FCC listing revealed that the smartphone will retain a more conventional 16:9 form factor but will employ a high-resolution display accommodating 2560 by 1440 pixels. The device should run Android Oreo out of the box and will presumably retain the operating system’s UI for the most part, much like the 2017 Nokia models did before it. Availability is still in question but given the recent FCC visit and various leaks surrounding the phone, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Nokia 9 gets introduced at MWC in late February.
