It seems that face unlocking is all the rage these days. It was introduced and abandoned back in the earlier years of Android and now it’s back (no thanks to Apple dropping Touch ID and introducing a biometric face unlock method with the iPhone X).
The OnePlus 5T now has a rudimentary face unlock feature and the OnePlus 5 should be getting it soon. Now Honor has announced that the Honor 7X, a budget device starting at $200, will be getting a face unlock feature in Q1 of 2018.
The feature won’t be as secure as Apple’s Face ID since the Honor 7X (and OnePlus 5T for that matter) lacks any sensors other than a front-facing camera. You’re likely better off using the fingerprint sensor if you really care about security. Nonetheless, it’s another option for unlocking your device while keeping the everyday intruder out.
