Hands-On With The Westinghouse 4K UHD Android TV – CES 2018

The Consumer Electronics Show is always about all kinds of different technology and this usually means plenty of new TVs, and this year Westinghouse has multiple TVs to show off that are likely to be tantalizing to plenty of consumers as these new TVs are not only coming with a 4K UHD resolution but they’re also powered by the Android TV platform, meaning users will have access to plenty of applications right on their TV screens, from Netflix, to the Chrome browser, to multitudes of games all available in the Play Store.

Altogether Westinghouse is launching four new TVs as part of this new lineup with integrated Android TV functionality but all will have 4K resolution screens as the only difference will be the actual size of the display. These screen sizes will include the 43-inch model, as well as a 50-inch model, a 55-inch model, and a 65-inch model so as to cater to every corner of the market. In addition to having Android TV built-in the TVs are also equipped with Google Assistant which makes it possible to use the TVs for controlling other smart home devices, like lights, thermostats, switches, and anything else that works with Google Assistant. This is perfect for anyone who has yet to pick up a Google Home but was thinking about getting a TV upgrade as they now won’t need to have both.

For the gamers, Westinghouse is boasting that it’s going to be possible to start playing Android games on the TV while at home and then transfer that play to the mobile device when consumers to pick up and leave. So if you start something in the morning and then have to head off to work or school you can move to playing on the phone during the commute. Of course, this is really just handled by Google Play games, so any other Android TV should be offering the same thing as it natively tracks your gameplay progress so you can play across devices. Westinghouse says these will be available some time in the second quarter of this year and the starting cost will be $349 which is for the 43-inch model. Beyond the 4K UHD resolution and the 43-inch all the way to 65-inch display sizes, these new TVs will come with a 60Hz native refresh rate and a 120Hz effective refresh rate, as well as streaming resolution support for 4K, 1080p, and 720p at up to 70 frames per second. The TVs also come with built-in Wi-Fi and three HDMI out ports and an optical port.
