Google Maps is set to add showtimes and ticket sales for movies it looks like at some point in the future, which is suggested by strings of code found in the APK of the latest version of the application, which is currently version 9.7. It’s also worth pointing out that this is the beta version of the app and not the stable version, so features may still be a little ways off before showing up in the main app for all users. Based on the strings of code, it looks like you’ll be able to search for more showtimes and the app will be able to tell you if there are now showtimes for the day that you’re looking at.
In addition to movie showtimes Google Maps is getting some other features down the line it looks like as well as some new changes that are already usable. In regards to the changes that are already available in the beta version of Maps, it looks like you’ll now be able to add or remove places that you’ve visited manually. From the menu if you’re looking at a particular place on the map, such as a business you’ve been before, you can tap the overflow menu and all the way at the bottom of this list will be the option to add a new place to your visited places. Back outside of the overflow menu if you scroll a little bit down from the top of the page, you’ll see a remove button under the timeline of when you visited this place.
As for the other upcoming features, it’ll be possible (eventually, at least) to set up custom searches shortcuts, which will let you immediately perform that search once you tap the shortcut button. There’s also going to be a shortcut for “Your Directions” which should allow you to access a saved set of directions to and from a certain destination. Food photos are going to get more details as well, or rather you’ll be able to add details to the photos of food that you add into Maps, such as the name of the food, how much it cost, and whether or not you’d recommend that others give it a try. Lastly, it also looks like Google will include walking times and wait times to the transit instructions soon.
