Case Maker Prematurely Outs Hi-Res Samsung Galaxy S9 Renders

Smartphone case manufacturer dbrand prematurely published a number of high-resolution renders depicting the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus, Samsung’s next pair of Android flagships set to be launched next month. The company is already offering a wide variety of protective cases for the devices that future Galaxy S9 owners can customize to a large extent, being able to choose the colors of four elements of every case they order.

The renders showing the two handsets without a case that can be seen in the gallery below and are featured on dbrand’s website are completely in line with the vast majority of recent reports about the flagships, suggesting that the main external differentiating factor between the two will be their camera setups; while the Galaxy S9 is depicted with a single lens on its rear plate, the Galaxy S9 Plus features a dual-camera setup consisting of two vertically arranged sensors centered near the top of its panel. A dual-LED flash unit and a heart rate monitor are shown as occupying the space to the right of the cameras, with that particular location accommodating the fingerprint reader on the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus. The scanner has now been moved below the cameras and is oriented in a horizontal manner but otherwise retains the overall shape of the sensor featured by the 2017 lineup, according to the same renders. While the images indicate the black variants of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus will both feature a matte finish, Samsung is expected to stick with the glossy Midnight Black color commercialized with the Galaxy S8 series, with the back panels of the devices reportedly still being made of glass so as to allow wireless charging.

The two smartphones are also expected to differ in terms of memory configurations, with the 5.8-inch Galaxy S9 allegedly having 4GB of RAM and a base model with 64GB of internal storage space, much like its direct predecessor. The 6.2-inch Galaxy S9 Plus is instead rumored to sport twice the internal memory and 6GB of RAM, with its most premium variant possibly even shipping with 512GB of storage. The two handsets have already been confirmed for a pre-MWC 2018 announcement on February 25th and should hit the market by mid-March, with recent rumors suggesting they’ll be Samsung’s most expensive Android smartphones to date.
