Soundcamp Android App Starts Hinting At Galaxy S9’s Design

The latest version of the Soundcamp Android app possibly started hinting at the design of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus, Samsung’s upcoming par of flagships set to succeed the critically acclaimed Galaxy S8 lineup in early 2018. The promotional illustrations attached to the app’s listing on the Galaxy Apps Store depict a Galaxy handset will less rounded corners and a slightly thinner bottom bezel than the Galaxy S8 that still isn’t as rectangular as the Galaxy Note 8. Coupled with a bezel-less design and what may be a screen curving alongside the long edges of the device, the illustrations seen in the gallery below are believed to depict either the Galaxy S9 or Galaxy S9 Plus.

The development marks the second occasion on which Samsung’s mobile app team possibly hinted at the design of the company’s next Android flagship; earlier this month, a screenshot said to be showing an unreleased version of S Health depicted a Galaxy smartphone with a fingerprint sensor similar to the one found on the Galaxy S8 series and the Galaxy Note 8 but positioned horizontally below its camera setup instead of being aligned vertically next to it. By most accounts, the new additions to the Galaxy S family will be iterative upgrades over their predecessors and focus on refining the widely popular Galaxy S8 formula instead of radically changing it. Besides slightly thinner bezels and an improved iris scanner that’s expected to be noticeably faster than Samsung’s previous iteration of the technology, the two handsets are also expected to introduce SoC upgrades and be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 and Samsung’s own Exynos 9810, depending on the region.

The 5.8-inch Galaxy S9 is otherwise rumored to be mostly unchanged compared to the previous flagship and still feature 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 64GB of internal flash storage, in addition to retaining the single-camera setup found on the Galaxy S8. The 6.2-inch Galaxy S9 Plus should instead have a base of 6GB of RAM and be offered in three or four variants, with its most expensive model possibly featuring Samsung’s 512GB memory chip which the South Korean tech giant recently started mass-producing. The two devices are rumored to launch on February 27th and start retailing by spring.
