Samsung Galaxy A8 & LG K Series Coming To CES 2018: Report

Samsung and LG are planning to debut new entry-level and mid-range offerings at the upcoming iteration of Las Vegas-based Consumer Electronics Show, ET News reported on Friday, without citing any specific sources. The world’s largest phone maker is reportedly planning to use CES 2018 to showcase the Galaxy A8 and Galaxy A8 Plus, its widely reported successors to the Galaxy A5 (2017) and Galaxy A7 (2017). LG is bringing its new entry-level models to the trade show and will present them as the latest additions to the LG K lineup which will be marketed as the LG X series in South Korea and be released in late January, insiders say.

The Galaxy A8 and Galaxy A8 Plus are both set to succeed the bezel-free design of Samsung’s recently released flagships but will feature an Infinity Display with an 18:9 aspect ratio instead of an even taller 18.5:9 one. Bixby support is also rumored to be part of the package, together with a physical button solely dedicated to activating Samsung’s artificial intelligence assistant. Sources claim Samsung’s prototypes won’t support Bixby Voice at the trade show, though that particular functionality should be implemented by the time they’re released given how Samsung already debuted the English version of the voice-enabled service. The bezel-less aesthetic resulted in the removal of a physical Home button from Samsung‘s new mid-rangers and prompted the company to equip them with rear-mounted fingerprint readers. The new Galaxy-branded Android phones will both support Samsung Pay and feature a 3.5mm headphone jack, as well as a USB-C port and a 6.0-inch Super AMOLED display panel with an FHD+ resolution, according to previous reports. The devices should be released in Samsung’s home country shortly after CES but aren’t likely to make their way to the West before late winter.

The main addition to LG’s K series is reportedly called the K10 (2018), a handset with a 5.3-inch FHD screen and 3GB of RAM which is powered by an unspecified processor that may be made by MediaTek. The Android device is said to sport 32GB of storage space expandable via a microSD card and will primarily be targeted at select Asian countries and South America. India should also receive the LG K10 (2018) by spring but its pricing details remain unknown.
