Samsung Galaxy A8 Android Mid-Ranger Spotted In Case Renders

Nine new renders depicting what are said to be Samsung’s official LED View Covers for the Galaxy A8 appeared online earlier today, having been obtained by Dutch blog Galaxy Club. The images that can be seen in the gallery below also show the handset itself, in addition to providing more credence to recent reports that Samsung’s upcoming Android mid-ranger will be available in three color options – Black, Gold, and Orchid Gray. Like many previous depictions of the Galaxy A8 and Galaxy A8 Plus, the newly uncovered images show a handset with a largely bezel-free screen whose aspect ratio is taller than the conventional 16:9 one. While Samsung’s Infinity Display found on the Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8 Plus, and the Galaxy Note 8 was of the 18.5:9 variety, recent rumors suggest that the Galaxy A8 lineup will have a screen with an 18:9 (2:1) image format.

The supposed Galaxy A8 is also shown without a bottom-facing speaker, even though one will almost certainly be part of the package, whereas its USB Type-C Port and 3.5mm headphone jack are both shown in the renders. The existence of what appears to be an LED View Cover suggests the handset will ship with Always-On Display support and while Samsung is widely expected to incorporate Bixby into its new offering, the renders don’t show a dedicated physical button for activating the firm’s artificial intelligence assistant. The rear panel of the device shows a single-lens camera setup with a dual-LED (dual-tone) flash unit to its right and a fingerprint scanner beneath it. A heart rate monitor isn’t shown on the handset and is unlikely to be included, with this particular feature still being largely exclusive to high-end smartphones.

According to latest reports, the South Korean tech giant is planning to officially unveil the successors to the Galaxy A5 (2017) and Galaxy A7 (2017) at Las Vegas-based Consumer Electronics Show in early January and will begin retailing the handsets come February. Most European countries are only set to receive the smaller Galaxy A8, whereas Galaxy A8 Plus is said to be reserved for select markets where a demand for large phablets is stronger than average. The screen of the Galaxy A8 Plus is said to have a 6-inch or longer diagonal and both devices are expected to run Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box before being updated to 8.0 Oreo in mid-2018.
