Huawei’s Next Tablet Will Likely Be Called The MediaPad M5

A new Huawei tablet under the name of Mediapad M5 looks to be coming soon according to a new Bluetooth certification. The Chinese company launched the current Mediapad M3 back in October of last year, but recently details surrounding its rumored successor, the Mediapad M4, appeared online. Now, though, according to a new Bluetooth certification, it looks like Huawei may skip the number altogether.

It’s no secret that the number 4 is considered unlucky in China, with companies such as OnePlus and Nokia avoiding the number at all costs. Now, it appears Huawei will be the next company to do so by calling its next tablet the Mediapad M5. As the new certification reveals, the tablet will support Bluetooth 4.2 and will sport an 8.4-inch display, just like its predecessor, while the resolution is also expected to remain the same at 2560 x 1600p. Design-wise, not much is known about the device, but it will likely retain the premium aluminum build that the Mediapad M3 sported. In terms of internal specifications, HiSilicon’s octa-core Kirin 960 is listed – the same processor included in the Huawei P10 line – and is likely coupled with 4GB of RAM. Not only this but on the software side of things the tablet is expected to ship with Android 8.0 Oreo straight out of the box, though the company’s own EMUI 8.0 overlay will also be included. Other unconfirmed features include a fingerprint scanner, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a USB Type-C port, with the stereo speakers seen on the Mediapad M3 also likely to make a return. Huawei is yet to officially confirm the existence of the Mediapad M5, but with the Bluetooth certification already granted, the device is likely to make its official debut sometime next month, with CES 2018 being the most likely bet.

If the company opts for a CES debut, the announcement is expected to take place alongside the official US debut of the Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro which, according to the latest information, are likely to be available through both Verizon and AT&T shortly after. Nonetheless, for those who may be interested in Huawei’s upcoming tablet, they should expect a similar price to that of the Mediapad M3 once it goes on sale early next year, meaning a $350 price tag is likely.
