New information points towards a MWC 2018 release for Huawei’s next flagship. The new rumor states that the Huawei P11 will be released sometime in the first quarter of 2018, following in the steps of previous P-series flagships. In addition to this, it’s also stated that a big focus would be put on the device’s camera, while AI is also expected to be the center of attention.
Considering Huawei chose a MWC debut for both the P10 and P10 Plus, it’s likely that a Q1 release for the P11 will mean a similar release at the annual Barcelona event. The new flagship is expected to follow in the footsteps of the Mate 10 Pro, by introducing a bezel-less design to the P series for the first time, something that will result in a pretty drastic redesign over the current generation – some rumors even point towards an iPhone X-like notch. Huawei is also said to be planning an all-new camera setup that should one-up the competition significantly. On the front of the device, the 8-megapixel sensor seen on the P10 is rumored to have been scrapped, and in its place the company is set to introduce a new 24-megapixel sensor, a significant upgrade over this year’s device. In terms of the rear camera, the changes are said to be even bigger. In recent generations, the Chinese company has opted for a dual-camera setup, with the P10 including a 12-megapixel color sensor, alongside a 12-megapixel monochrome sensor. For the P11, though, Huawei could add a third Leica-branded sensor on to the rear which together with the other two, could allow for 40-megapixel images and a 5x hybrid zoom.
Lastly, moving on to the AI aspect of the device, Huawei’s own Kirin 970 processor is expected to power the P11, meaning the device could include a dedicated neural processing unit. The Huawei P11 will not be the only big flagship release for the company next year, however. The company is said to be looking at striking deals with both Verizon and AT&T in order to launch its Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro flagships in the US next month, with an initial announcement likely to take place at CES 2018 in Las Vegas next month.
