Galaxy S7, S7 Edge Receive Dec. 2017 Security Patch On Verizon

Verizon has teamed up with Samsung to push out the latest Android security update, which is for the month of December, to the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge. The Galaxy S7 will receive software version G935VVRU4BQK4, while the Galaxy S7 Edge will be receiving G935VVRU4BQK4. In the changelog posted on Verizon’s website, only the December security patch is included, with no additional bug fixes or software improvements. Also, the much awaited update to Android 8.0 Oreo isn’t in the package, as it is set to be released sometime next year.

If you haven’t already received the notification prompting you to update your device, you could check whether the December security update is available for your Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge, and all you have to do is proceed to the Settings app, select “About Device”, tap on “Software Update”, and tap the option titled “Download Updates Manually”. On the other hand, you could wait for the system to prompt you to install the security update when it is available for your device. However, for that to happen, you will need to have at least 50% of battery life remaining in your device or ensure it is plugged into an outlet. As the December security update is being delivered over-the-air (OTA), it might take a few days for you to receive it as it is released to compatible devices in stages to avoid the possibility of the servers being overloaded.

It is recommended to download the Android security patch as soon as possible, as such security updates are designed to improve security on smartphone which run on Android. All changes take place under the hood and consist of vulnerability patches, meaning that these updates should be top priority for any Android smartphone user wanting to access online services and content in a secure environment. The Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge were released by the South Korean firm back in early 2016. Both devices sport similar specs, including a Exynos 8890 processor, and a Mali T880MP12 GPU. Memory wise, both phones pack 4GB of RAM along with either 32GB or 64GB of expandable internal storage. Meanwhile, both handsets differ in terms of screen size, and battery capacities. The Galaxy S7 packs a 5.1-inch display coupled with a 3,000mAh battery, while the Galaxy S7 Edge sports a 5.5-inch curved display and a 3,600mAh battery.
