It seems like Honor is striving in India this year, as the company managed to double its shipments compared to 2016. Honor’s President, George Zhao, told PTI that Honor India has shipped 98.8 percent more devices in 2017, compared to a year before. Now, Mr. Zhao did not specify what time period is he referring to, but we’re assuming that this info is based on the first three quarters, and the year is still not over, which leaves Honor plenty of room to cross the 100 percent mark.
Now, Mr. Zhao also added that the company is planning to ramp up its manufacturing facility in India, boosted by the increased sales. For those of you who do not know, Honor is actually selling its smartphone in India via online channels, and it seems like that is paying off for them, at least for now. The company is planning to start selling AI-boosted smartphones in India early next year, and thanks to some AI capabilities, such phones will be able to know who exactly is using the phone, adapt its battery consumption based on usage scenarios, and so on. The AI factor comes from Huawei’s chips, the Kirin 970 is the most popular one and the most powerful one at the same time. This processor actually comes with a dedicated NPU processor, and Huawei has been heavily advertising its AI capabilities.
Now, in addition to Mr. Zhao’s comment, P Sanjeev also had something to say, he is a Vice President of the Huawei Consumer Business Group in India. Mr. Sanjeev said that India is a key market for Honor, and he also revealed that the company is planning to reveal phones in India faster, bridging the gap between Indian and global announcements, which basically means that in the future, you can expect to see Honor’s devices to launch in Europe and in India at the same time, for example. Having said that, the Honor 7X is on its way to India, the phone will be announced on December 5, which is the exact date the device will be unveiled in the UK as well. It will be interesting to see how many smartphones will Honor be able to sell in India by the end of the year.
