Video: Quick Analysis of the Mercedes-AMG Project One Suspension

The Mercedes-AMG Project One concept was definitely one of the cars that captured the most media attention at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. The hypercar boasts more than a thousand horsepower and a very striking design. It features a hybrid system derived from the winning Formula One cars of Mercedes-AMG Petronas.

A new video by Kyle Engineers in YouTube examines what is happening beneath suspension of the auto. From there, we could see that it is definitely a notch up compared to the other sports cars of Mercedes.

The presentation first takes us to the damping system of the car. It gives us a tour in the auto’s suspension arms. Instead of double-A arms, the vehicle uses single-linkage arms. The pushrods serve as its suspension actuators, which take the force to the dampers and bell cranks.

The advantage brought about by the setup is that it eliminates the need for damper mounts. Ultimately, the architecture helps shave some of the Project One’s weight.

After that, the video details how the engineering of the AMG hypercar’s suspension will perform on the road at various conditions. It explains how the system works to dampen forces from roll and bump elements in the most efficient way.

Overall, the video gives us a grasp on how the complicated suspension of the Project One works. It just displays how the people at Mercedes are continuously coming up with ways to improve their cars, and how they address issues that come along with the development of an F1-inspired hypercar carrying more than a thousand horsepower.
