Hands-On With Google’s New Pixel 2 Smartphone

Google’s Pixel 2 smartphone was officially announced earlier this morning and while much of the features, design, and specs were leaked well before the event, now that Google has unveiled the device all of those things have been confirmed, which makes it easier for consumers to decide on whether or not the Pixel 2 is the best phone for them, whether that be an upgrade or a first-time smartphone. Since the design of the phone was leaked prior to today’s event a number of times there wasn’t much of a surprise in the looks department, but there’s still something to be said for getting to check the device out a little more in-depth, and during Google’s event we’ve gotten an up close look at one of Google’s newest phones, which you can also check out from the gallery of images below.

Beyond the specs, which include a 5-inch Full HD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, 2,700mAh battery, Bluetooth 5.0, water and dust resistance, 4GB of RAM, front-facing stereo speakers, and either 64GB or 128GB of storage, the Pixel 2 has quite a few improvements over last year’s Pixel model. One of these new improvements is in the rear-facing camera, which DxOMark has now rated as the best smartphone camera to date, taking the accomplishment back from Apple’s iPhone 8 Plus, beating its score of 94 out by four more points, totaling 98.

While the camera is sure to be one of the better features that consumers love after picking up this device, other improvements are just as likely to impress. The fingerprint sensor on the Pixel 2 is now the fastest fingerprint sensor on the market, which will help users access their favorite apps, games, and other functions of the phone, like the camera, a lot more quickly than on any other smartphone. For those that thrive on having a quick device which is just as quick to unlock, this may very well be the best new feature. Of course, the Pixel 2 also has the Active Edge feature, which will not only allow users to squeeze the side sensors to activate Google Assistant, but launch other applications and shortcuts as the sensor functionality can be configured to meet each user’s specific needs. If you’re interested in seeing more of the Pixel 2 before you get a hold of your own, you can take a closer look at the devices in the gallery of images below.
