Though Google’s Pixel 2 devices are dominating the headlines, the company’s first devices aren’t forgotten. Google has begun to roll out Google Lens to the first-gen Pixel and Pixel XL. Google Lens was introduced earlier this month at Google’s launch event for the Pixel 2. The technology draws information from your photos and uses Google’s search and Assistant functionality to show you results based off of that data.
For the first-gen Pixel devices, Google Lens is slowly rolling out through the Photos app. This means that, for now, Lens can only be used to pull information from your existing photos. Users can’t yet use the Google Assistant to scan the environment around them. There’s no word on when Google Lens will roll out to the Assistant, but it shouldn’t be too far into the future.
The update has only arrived for a few users so far. Be patient and keep checking, as it may just take a few days to arrive.
