2018 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Drive Modes
The way that you drive your plug-in hybrid is what really lets you get the most out of its fuel and charge-saving abilities. With the all-new 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, drivers have access to three different drive modes, which allow them to harness the best fuel efficiency possible. Here at Continental Mitsubishi, we’ll break down the different drive system modes available with the Outlander PHEV.
Drivers of the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV have the choice between three ways to drive: EV, Series and Parallel modes. For your convenience, the most efficient drive mode will be automatically selected at all times, depending on driving conditions and battery charge level.
EV Mode
In EV mode, the Outlander PHEV is in its all-electric mode, which offers an eco-friendly, efficient driving performance. In this mode, the vehicle does not power its engine at all.
EV mode is used generally at the beginning of your drive, during city driving and while driving at highway speeds.
Series Hybrid Mode
For the Series Hybrid mode, the engine runs periodically. The motor of the PHEV is powered with periodic assistance from the engine. The vehicle is driven through engine-generated electricity.
The Series Hybrid mode is employed generally when a little more power is needed, such as uphill driving or when driving in the city on a low battery.
Parallel Hybrid Mode
In the Parallel Hybrid Mode, the engine is powered with periodic assistance from the motor. When the battery is low, the PHEV will use its surplus power to charge it. The engine drives the vehicle, with assistance from its motors.
Parallel Hybrid mode comes into play when driving at higher speeds such as when you’re passing on the highway.
