It’s been one crazy summer so far!
Paul and I have been off to a different place every weekend to make the most of all the great summer weather we are having. One of the best things about living in the Pacific Northwest is how many incredible and driveable destinations are close to our home base here in Portland, Oregon.
So we’ve been living in Portland for 14 months and we finally got around to making a big trip up to Seattle. Now I haven’t been in almost 10+ years, so it was a total treat for us to get up there and stay at the Kimpton Hotel Monaco right near Pike Place Market.
The Location – If you’re looking for a hotel in Seattle, we really did love our stay here. I’ve always been a fan of their brand because of how quirky and dog-friendly their hotels are.
Our hotel was located right downtown and we could walk to Pike Place Market for breakfast or lunch – which was a major plus. We were also super close to the waterfront and all the shopping and stores around downtown.
The Room – Like the Sir Francis Drake Hotel in San Francisco and Hotel Vintage in Portland, the decor is always modern, fun, and bright and not the cookie cutter beige that you would get at a non-boutique hotel.
I’m always surprised when I walk into my room as I’m never sure what I’m going to get. Hotel Monaco did not disappoint with bold wallpaper, designer toiletries and bold hits of red in our room.
The Mini-Bar – If you sign-up for their Kimpton Karma rewards program (it’s free), you get a complimentary $10 mini-bar credit on every stay. It’s a nice little touch and I devoured a bag of local apple chips after a long day of walking around.
Bold wallpaper and colourful cushions and window coverings bring life to our room
The desk area with a stocked mini-bar and a flat screen TV on top
The Little Touches – I stay at a lot of hotels and it truly is the little touches and the attention to detail that I notice the most these days. The hotel offers complimentary Public Bikes for use, coffee in the morning, iced tea and water in the afternoon.
The legendary Kimpton Wine Hour is hosted in the lobby daily from 5-6 pm with complimentary wine for guests. I also loved this little bulletin board just by the lobby elevators asking guests what they love about Seattle.
The Restaurant – I didn’t have time to eat at Outlier, the hotel restaurant on this visit. But they just completed a beautiful renovation and the menu includes gourmet burgers and pizza, along with Pacific Northwest fare.
Overall, I had a lovely visit to Seattle and will be working on a Travel Guide for you soon. If you’re ever in Seattle, do check out Kimpton Hotel Monaco. It’s perfect in terms of location, design and service.
