Signs of cervical cancer
Irregular bleeding
This is one of the most common signs but if you have irregular bleeding like between periods or after sex you should visit your doctor. It is one of the main warning signs.
Vaginal discharge
If your discharge is tinged with blood, brown, clear, foul smelling, watery or white then you should check with your doctor because a change in the discharge is another warning sign of cervical cancer.
Pain during sex
In some cases of cervical cancer, women experience pain during sex. If you experience any kind of pain during sex, then consult your doctor.
Severe signs of cervical cancer
These are some of the first symptoms of cervical cancer and they shouldn’t be ignored because the earlier it is found the easier it is to treat. But here are some of the symptoms of advanced cervical cancer.
- Back pain
- Pelvic pain
- Weight loss
- Fatigue
- Bone pain
- Changes in the bowel movements
- Constipation
- Loss of appetite
- Blood in the urine
Risk factors
Human papilloma virus
HPV is considered as one of the greatest risk factors for cervical cancer. It can be transmitted through sexual intercourse or skin-to-skin contact.
Smoking
People who smoke are exposed to chemicals that cause cancer, therefore, women who smoke have more chances to develop cervical cancer.
Chlamydia infection
It can be transmitted through sexual intercourse and it is another infection that increases the risk of cervical cancer.
Diet low in vegetable and fruit
The women who live in the third-world countries are at higher risk of developing cancer because they don’t eat foods rich in vitamins.
Long-term use or oral contraceptives
It is proven that the longer you take oral contraceptive you are at higher risk of developing cervical cancer but when you stop taking them, then the risk lowers.
Multiple full-term pregnancies
This is not proven why but women who had three or more full-term pregnancies are at higher risk of developing cervical cancer.
Prevention
The best way to prevent cervical cancer are regular Pap tests, exercising, and healthy diet. There is also a vaccine for cervical cancer but it is still debatable.
