Verizon bumps upgrade fee to $30, no longer offers 2-year contracts to existing customers

Verizon introduced a $20 upgrade fee not long ago, but that didn’t last long. Now the fee is officially $30 and it applies to both buying a device at full retail price and on a payment plan.

There also used to be a $40 upgrade fee for those getting new two-year contracts, but two-year contracts are no longer available to existing customers. While there is no official announcement for this, the two-year contract option has disappeared for existing customers.

If you’re planning on picking up a new device on Verizon soon, be ready to shell out an extra $30 on top of the cost of the device. Maybe buying a phone from a third-party that works on Verizon is a better choice these days.
