Nokia 6 makes its official debut with Android Nougat and aluminum unibody design

Nokia revealed last year that it’d be teaming up with HMD Global to re-enter the smartphone game, with HMD building the devices and plastering the Nokia name on them. And now the first smartphone to come out of that partnership has been revealed.

The Nokia 6 made its official debut today. The Android Nougat smartphone touts an aluminum unibody design, and HMD touts that it takes 55 minutes to machine a Nokia 6 from a block of 6000 series aluminum.

Included with the Nokia 6 is a 5.5-inch 1920×1080 display with 2.5D Gorilla Glass and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera, as well as a 16-megapixel camera with an f/2.0 aperture and phase detection autofocus around back. Inside the aluminum unibody shell is a Snapdragon 430 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of built-in storage.

Rounding out the Nokia 6’s feature set are dual amplifiers, which HMD touts as offering a 6dB louder sound than a regular amp for “higher voice, deeper bass, and unmatched clarity.”

The Nokia 6 will launch exclusively at JD.com in China in early 2017 for 1699 CNY ($246 USD).

For the price, the Nokia 6 looks like a pretty competitive smartphone. It combines the well-known Nokia name with premium materials and a spec list that’s mostly solid. We’ll have to wait until the Nokia 6’s launch to see how it performs, but so far, it looks like a pretty strong return to smartphones for the Nokia name.
