The Australian Open is one of the largest tennis tournaments in the world with more than 100 years of history. Imagine all the effort put into making this tournament possible every single year! From elementary elements like administrative work to the actual matches, the organization of this special event takes a true team effort. As the major sponsor of the Australian Open for 16 consecutive years, see how Kia Motors has contributed to making this year’s tournament a huge success!

Australian Open Tournament Director Craig Tiley said, “It’s a huge logistical exercise to move all our players, officials, media and staff around Melbourne during the tournament and every year this is achieved thanks to Kia’s reliability and support.”

The tradition of a courtesy fleet continued this year. Kia supplied 110 vehicles for the fleet, including 50 Carnivals, 40 Sorentos and 20 Optimas, to ensure smooth and safe transportation throughout the event. The official handover ceremony was joined by our global brand ambassador Rafael Nadal, as he passed the ceremonial key to Tennis Australia.

At the ceremony, Kia introduced the Kia Stinger, which made its world debut earlier this month at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show. Also presented at the handover was a giant tennis racquet for visiting fans to sign.

How has it been so far?

The tournament began on the 16th this month as more than 72,000 fans gathered at Melbourne Park to witness the year’s first grand slam; and the heat of the event is building up! Between the heated matches, Kia has launched exciting programs to keep the festive spirits high.

Prior to the tournament, we launched the ‘Kia Lucky Drive to Australia’ program for 70 customers from all over the world who were selected and invited to experience the excitement of the Australian Open firsthand. In addition, Kia continued the annual ‘Open Drive’ series where players participated in quirky and interesting on-camera interviews while on a drive aboard the Kia Sportage.

The Power to Surprise

We believe in the idea that ‘Everyone has the Power to Surprise’. The success of the Australian Open does not depend on just one person. It is all of us together that makes this global affair all the more exciting. Check out our video inspired by this belief featuring Rafael Nadal!
