Huawei has announced that its Mate 9 flagship will launch in the US on January 6, 2017. The company previously revealed at the Mate 9′s announcement that it would arrive in the US as part of the company’s broader push into the US market.
In a surprise move, however, Huawei has announced that the Mate 9 will feature Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant technology. This addition makes the Mate 9 the first smartphone on the market to use Alexa. The service will be available as part of an app on the Mate 9. Existing Mate 9 owners will soon receive an OTA update that will bring the Alexa tech to their devices as well.
The Mate 9 is the epitome of what Huawei stands for. The device features powerful performance with the company’s Kirin 960 processor that uses Machine Learning to deliver consistently fast performance as time goes on. In the software, Huawei is using EMUI 5.0 to deliver the same consistent performance by analyzing user’s habits and adapting to suit them. Huawei’s crown jewel of the device is the rear dual camera array that is part of a collaboration with Leica.
We recently reviewed the Mate 9 and found ourselves quite impressed. The US market is notoriously saturated and difficult to break into, but with the Mate 9, Huawei may have a real shot at gaining a spot in consumers’ minds.
The Huawei Mate 9 will be available in Moonlight Gray and Space Silver with pricing set at $599.99. Customers can find the Mate 9 at Best Buy, Amazon, Newegg and B&H.
