FAA drops Galaxy Note 7 flight announcement requirement

With the potential for Samsung‘s Galaxy Note 7 to explode, airlines have been making announcements before flights to inform passengers that the device is banned from being brought on board.

However, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced that it has dropped its requirement that these pre-flight announcements be made. Of course, the Galaxy Note 7 is still banned from flights.

The FAA says the Department of Transportation (DoT) removed the pre-boarding announcement requirement “due to the high degree of public awareness of the ban since issuance of the emergency restriction/prohibition order, as well as the extensive efforts by Samsung and U.S. wireless providers to make all Note 7 users aware the phone is recalled and banned from transport on U.S. aircraft.”

Samsung has also confirmed in a statement that 96 percent of Galaxy Note 7 devices in the US have been returned, which is good news across the board.
