The BIG Game is just around the corner!

Will you be hosting a game day party this year? I love it because it’s a great excuse to have friends and family over for a couple hours on a Sunday and a chance to eat, drink and catch-up. Whether you’re hosting 4 people or 40 people, here are some helpful tips for throwing the ultimate game day party:

1) Have a Variety Food + Space It Out

I used to put all the food out at once, but quickly figured out it’s nicer to bring things out in waves so there’s something new for everyone to enjoy. You don’t want to overwhelm your guests with ALL the food!

Start out with a few light appetizers, put out a few bowls of Snyder’s of Hanover® Pretzels for guests to munch on and while people arrive and then bring out a few hot appetizers out of the oven after the first quarter.

Serve a variety of food and a mix of sweet, savory and crunchy things for your guests to enjoy! I like putting out these Cape Cod® Potato Chips with a Creamy French Onion Dip. The waffle cut chips have a great crunch to them and are great for dipping.

2) Create a Signature Drink

Instead of taking custom drink orders when people arrive, set out a signature non-alcholic drink that kids and guests can help themselves to. I like creating a big bowl of icy cold punch and leaving a pile of cups on the table so people can refill whenever they need to.

Set out a cooler full of ice and beer with a bottle opener. If you’re serving wine, put out a bunch of wine glasses and an open bottle or two to start your party off. Don’t forget to leave out a pitcher of water as well!

3) A DIY Main Course

I like to put out the main course right before halftime so people can grab a plate and tuck in for the show. Consider doing something easy and DIY so you’re not stuck in the kitchen the whole time. Try a DIY Taco Bar, a Baked Potato Station, Pulled Pork Station or DIY Chili Bar and prep all the ingredients and toppings ahead of time so you can just grab everything out of the fridge. Use a slow cooker to keep things warm while serving.

4) Make it a Potluck!

I have the most amazing friends and family who are always asking what they can bring. Do take them up on the offer so you can spread out all the tasks and cooking for game day. If your friend likes to cook, ask them to make the chili or a fun appetizer like these Mini Chicken + Waffles. Or hold off on buying the veggie tray, fruit platter or dessert and ask them to bring one of these easy items to grab at the store.

5) Create a Kid-Friendly Activity Area

Hit up the craft store and dollar store and stock up on supplies to keep the kids busy during the big game. Set-up a kid-friendly activity area complete with snacks, juice boxes, coloring books, and toys with a little table and chairs. Throw on a movie in another room to make sure everyone is entertained and happy.
