The Antique Automobile Club of America Museum in Hershey, Pennsylvania, is preparing to host a mini-gathering of some truly fearsome cars, the midsize B-body muscle cars from Mopar. You know them as being minimalist hardtops with monumental horsepower designed to go fast in a straight line and little else. As demonstrated by public interest – and auction sale prices – they remain among the most revered Chrysler Corporation products of the postwar era.
Starting on November 18 and continuing through April 22, 2017, the AACA Museum will present a display of restored Chrysler performance cars in its galleries. Those cars, and the owners displaying them, will include a 1962 Plymouth drag car in the collection of Whit Ackerman of Binghamton, New York; a 1966 Dodge Charger loaned by Dennis Boyer of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania; a 1967 Plymouth GTX on loan from John Garnett of Spotsylvania, Virginia; a 1968 Dodge Super Bee owned by Thomas Aman from Ashburn, Virginia; a 1969 Plymouth GTX presented by James Costa of Lenhartsville, Pennsylvania; along with a 1970 Dodge Charger and a 1971 Plymouth GTX, both under the ownership of Glen Keller from Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.
Per Nancy Gates, the museum’s director of marketing and communication, the Mopar Midsize Muscle display will be the first of several “mini exhibits ” with a muscle car theme. Look for more on the museum’s 2017 exhibit plans in the coming weeks.
