Twitter’s Direct Messaging system always seemed like an afterthought, a way to share quick message but not converse. However, that’s changed quite a bit recently with tweaks that’ve made Twitter Direct Messaging quite usable for chatting.
The latest update to the Direct Messages includes a bunch of features to bring them up to par with other messaging apps like Facebook Messenger. Twitter has added read receipts, typing indicators, and link previews to DMs.
If you don’t like read receipts, they can be disabled in settings. For most people, though, this is a great set of features that make Twitter DMs a more viable options for chatting with friends. Twitter DMs won’t be taking over the big chat apps anytime soon, but it’s a step in the right direction.
