Motorola Moto G4 Play launches in the U.S. unlocked on September 15

Motorola‘s Moto G4 Play was made official at the same time as the more expensive Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus, but it didn’t quite make it to market as quickly as those two other devices in the United States. That’s finally changing, as the Moto G4 Play has been given a launch date: September 15.

Pre-orders for the G4 Play are already live at Motorola’s official website, as well as over at Amazon, where the digital storefront has two different options for potential buyers. The first is an unlocked Moto G4 Play, which will work for all of the major wireless carriers in the U.S.

Amazon is also offering the Moto G4 Play with its proprietary lock screen ads and offers, which, as is par for the course with these devices, is reserved specifically for Amazon Prime customers.

Amazon, and Motorola, are offering the Moto G4 Play for $149.99 in its unlocked state. Amazon is discounting the price of the Moto G4 Play for Prime subscribers, though, thanks to the inclusion of lock screen offers and ads. That particular variant is still unlocked, but it will cost $99.99.

As far as specifications go, the Moto G4 Play boasts a quad-core processor, a 2800mAh battery, and a “clutter-free version of Android,” which the company says will help boost performance. There is 16GB of built-in storage (with support for 128GB microSD cards), 2GB of RAM, an 8MP camera on the back and a 5MP front-facing camera, and a 5-inch 720p HD display. It’s running Android 6.0.1 out of the box.
