Despite all of my best efforts, I always end up back on a "night owl" schedule. I've never been much of a morning person and have far too easy a time staying up super late. This type of schedule isn't necessarily bad, but I do tend to feel unproductive when it causes me to not wake up until 11am. I have such an internal struggle regarding this topic because I feel like I get more done at night, but I hate waking up so late. If you're not familiar with being a night owl yourself, here are some of the pros and cons that I tend to deal with.
PROS
- Less distractions, since it's quieter on social media and everyone is asleep
- I feel I get my best work done during this time
- It's easier for me to fall asleep because I'm usually exhausted by the time I go to bed
- This is when I'm most awake and creative
- By staying up later, I feel like I'm able to get more out of my day
- Nighttime is perfect for my introverted tendencies
- When my work is done for the night, I have nothing else to do and can actually relax - no deadlines, appointments, plans, etc.
- I never feel like I have to rush to fall asleep by a certain time (which can be incredibly stressful, especially for someone who is prone to anxiety)
CONS
- I miss quiet mornings and waking up slowly
- No sunrises :(
- Daytime seems to fly by super fast, which really bums me out (especially in the winter when daylight is shorter anyway)
- Those late nights can feel kind of lonely
- It's way too easy to sleep in super late, which throws off my entire day
- Since I miss out on so much daylight, I have a smaller window of time than early birds to get my photos taken, videos filmed, and errands ran
- It's a bit harder to make plans with friends and family unless they like staying up late too
Where do you fall - early bird or night owl?
