Mercedes-Benz A-Class Electronics Failure

One video posted on YouTube shows a Mercedes-Benz A-Class seemingly having a nervous breakdown in its electronics component. The display, speedometer, entertainment system are all going haywire.

While no explanation was provided in the description of the video, the title suggests that the Mercedes might have been hacked or simply having a problem in its electronic components.

Previously, alarms were raised when issues about a possible hacking of autonomous vehicles surfaced. Two years ago, IT experts Charlie Miller and Chris Valasek showed us that it is possible.

However, it involves dismantling the dashboard and manually connecting a computer to the CAN bus of the auto. It should be noted though that the specimen wasn’t a Mercedes, but the demonstration certainly proved a point.

Last year, the same duo took things further. In that instance, Miller and Valasek hacked a Jeep Cherokee remotely.

The experts made use of a security exploit found on the entertainment system of the vehicle. With that, they were able to control the air conditioning, unit, wiper, speedometer, and sound system of the auto. It’s just like what the A-Class in the video below is experiencing.

Worse, the hackers were also capable of steering it, activate its brakes, lock it, and accelerate it. The worst is they showed they could turn off the engine of the Jeep in the middle of the highway.

It was all done with only a laptop.
