The Mercedes-AMG GT R has finally been unveiled. Referred to as the “Beast,” the petrol green sports car made its way to the Brooklands circuit in Great Britain on June 24, 2016.

The GT R came to the legendary race track in a dramatic entrance. Placed inside a container, it was carried by a chopper to the venue. Then after a brief parade of the Mercedes-AMG GT, GT S (including its Formula One safety car version), and GT3, the GT R rolled out from the metal box driven by AMG chief Tobias Moers.

Moers was later joined by reigning F1 Drivers’ Champion Lewis Hamilton. The champ drove the sports car for a while to display its performance.

In a nutshell, the GT R is the street-legal version of the Mercedes-AMG GT3. AMG combined the driving dynamics of the GT3 with the GT to arrive at the GT R. Basically, it is a toned-down version of the GT3.

The GT R possesses a handcrafted 4.0-liter biturbo V8 engine with dry sump lubrication of AMG. The unit allows the car to produce up to 577 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. The power of the car is distributed to the rear wheels via an AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed dual clutch transmission. The Beast only weighs 3,428 lbs.

The specs of the GT R enable it to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds. On the other hand, the car has an electronically-limited top speed of 198 mph.
