Samsung Gear Fit2, Gear IconX now official

Over the last several weeks, Samsung’s Gear Fit2 and the Gear IconX have been seeing a steady stream of leaks. That’ll all come to an end now, though, as Samsung has just made both devices officially official.

The original Gear Fit launched in 2014, and Samsung has taken its time releasing its successor. The Gear Fit2 features design tweaks, including slimmer bezels and a wider screen (at a 216×432 resolution). Samsung has positioned the Gear Fit2 as a GPS-enabled sports band, not a smartwatch, which can also track your sleep and activity.

The Gear Fit2 features notification mirroring, and owners will be able to arrange fitness cards in a deck, which is similar to the way the software is handled on Samsung’s Gear S2 smartwatch. Those who wear the Gear Fit2 will get real-time feedback on their workouts, and be able to see achievements as well.

The Gear Fit2 also boasts Spotify integration. There’s a dedicated app pre-installed on the wearable, with curated playlists from athletes ready to go.

The Gear Fit2 launches in the United States on Friday, June 10. It’ll cost $179.

Samsung Gear IconX official

Next up: The Gear IconX, Samsung’s truly wireless earbuds. There are no wires connecting the two individual earbuds, and as is traditionally the case with wireless headphones, they don’t physically connect with a wire to your phone, either. The Gear IconX will also track your speed, distance, and heart rate data. All of that data will sync back to Samsung’s S Health platform.

There are controls that can be tapped on the earbuds that will play or pause music, and there are built-in speakers for answering calls. The Gear IconX boasts 4GB of built-in storage, too.

Samsung has included a special carrying case which will charge the Gear IconX. Battery life on the IconX is pretty short-lived, at 3.6 hours when connected to a phone or 1.5 hours when playing music from the built-in storage. (But, they’re a first-gen product, so perhaps not all that surprising.)

The Gear IconX will launch sometime in the third quarter of this year and it will retail for $199.

Both devices will work with Android devices running version 4.4 or newer and with 1.5GB of RAM or more.
