Amazon reportedly working on a standalone music streaming service

The market for streaming music services has become saturated with options, including Google Play Music, and we might be adding one more service to the list here soon, if a report from Reuters pans out.

According to the publication, Amazon is currently going through the process of launching a standalone music streaming service, something that it probably should have had right out of the gate. Still, this could be a better late than never situation, depending on Amazon’s implementation and digital content library.

That library is something that Amazon is working on right now, working through the licensing deals and finalizing them with labels to secure plenty of music for subscribers to listen to. The report states that the service will cost $9.99 per month, which is line with the competition, so no real surprise there.

It also appears that Amazon will position the streaming music service as a bonus to Amazon Echo, the company’s in-home product that features the digital personal assistant, Alexa, and help promote the product.

Will you use Amazon’s music streaming service if it’s real?
