2017 Honda Grom Announced for U.S.

American Honda announced restyled Grom for the 2017 model year, giving the minibike a sportier, more aggressive look. We’ve previously reported on the Grom’s new mini-streetfighter look when it was announced earlier this year for Europe as the MSX125. While the Grom is only a couple of years old, the redesign comes at a good time as it faces new competition in Kawasaki‘s new Z125 Pro.

As it did with its 500 series models, Honda is switching the Grom's lighting to LEDs.

“We’re excited to refresh the Grom with an assertive new look for 2017,” says Lee Edmunds, manager of Motorcycle Marketing Communications at American Honda. “Since its 2014 introduction, this fun-loving motorcycle has been a big hit in a little package, single-handedly establishing a thriving market for small-wheeled, small-displacement, big-personality road bikes that lend themselves to personalization. Now, the Grom’s styling is even more exciting without losing any of the original’s fun appeal.”

For 2017, the Grom receives new integrated fuel tank and side panels with a more aggressive look. The friendly-looking rounded headlight on the original Grom is replaced by a new boxy stacked LED unit. Honda moved the handlebars a few inches forward for a sportier riding position while the upswept tail and new two-tier seat puts passengers higher. And while there’s more room under the tail, Honda replaced the previous exhaust with a new underslung unit.

The engine remains the same 1124.8cc Single, as is the four-speed manual transmission. The 31mm inverted fork offers 3.1 inches of travel while the single rear shock gives the steel box-section swingarm 4.1 inches of travel. Braking performance is provided by a dual-piston caliper with 220mm disc up front and a single-piston caliper with 190mm disc at the back.

The 2017 Honda Grom will be offered in four colors: Matte Gray Metallic, Pearl Red, Pearl White, Bright Yellow. The updated Grom arrives in U.S. dealerships in August with the same $3,199 price tag as the previous version.
